WarmLine is a FREE peer counseling program for parents and caregivers of children 0 to 6 years of age. We address specific parenting concerns via telephone, email, facebook, text messaging and have multiple support groups. We also provide resources for parents to help better understand the issue that may arise when raising a baby and/or toddler. We are a non profit organization that has been serving the Bakersfield community and beyond since 1976.
La Cresta Foundation (“LCF”) is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to the educational and emotional well being of pre-school age children and their families. WarmLine supports LCF in its mission by fielding (bi-lingual) calls and electronic inquiries from parents and caregivers, helping them to deal more effectively with the crucial and often difficult situations that occur when raising babies and children.
WarmLine was founded in 1976 as a division of La Cresta Foundation (LCF) and has been serving Kern County families steadily since inception. WarmLine volunteers mentor clients helping them find solutions to parenting challenges. Statistically, the majority of individuals seeking assistance from WarmLine are women adapting to their new role as mothers and negotiating the potential pitfalls associated with issues such as crying babies, health and development, eating, sleeping, discipline and toilet training.
All volunteers undergo 8 months of training prior to taking calls. Training is necessary to learn about children’s behavior, growth, and development, as well as to enhance effectiveness and objectivity. We aim to promote parents’ understanding of their children’s needs during different developmental stages, while lending neutral moral support. We learn a new way of listening and communicating to help individual callers sort out and understand their concerns and arrive at the positive solution that works best for them.
